SMYRNA, Del. – The Wesley College men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Delaware State Alumni Run on Friday at the Delaware Outreach & Research Center in Smyrna.
The Wesley men finished fourth as a team. Brighton Dawson paced the men with a fifth-place finish in the 8k with a time of 29:25.5, with an average mile time of 5:55.1. Anthony Anastasi crossed the line in ninth place with a time of 30:27, averaging 6:07.7 in the mile. It is the third time both Dawson and Anastasi finished in the top-10 this season.
Raul Torres placed 22nd with a time of 34:11.3 while Jordan Dillard rounded out the top-25 with a time of 35:04.5. Erick Acevedo (27th, 36:00.4), Alexander Haber (29th, 37:07.3), Ian Thorne (33rd, 40:08.8) and Isaiah Bodie (35th, 43:21.0) ran well for the Wesley men.
The Wesley women notched a fifth-place finish as a team. Linda Ngouendja led the women with a 14th-place finish in the 5k with a time of 22:44.1, running an average mile of 7:19.0. Jontae Hankins finished in 19th place with a time of 23:42.9.
Ceoni Bennett (26th, 26:29.9), Briana Artis (29th, 26:38.7), Evelina Sloboh (31st, 29:19.0), Kyra Wesby (33rd, 31:24.6), Emani McNeil (34th, 31:31.3), Briyanna Woods (36th, 32:53.4) and Victoria Robinson (37th, 32:58.8) roundws out the Wesley women at the Delaware State meet.
Wesley will now prepare for the Atlantic East Conference Cross Country Championships, which will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27 and hosted by Marywood University.
