ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Wesley College men's and women's track & field teams opened the indoor season at the Navy Winter Invitational, held at the Wesley A. Brown Field House at the U.S. Naval Academy.
Kai Cole paced the Wesley men with a pair of top-five finishes in the sprints. Cole finished in a tie for first place in the 60-meter dash with Morgan State's Keon Rantin with a time of 6.87 seconds. Cole also placed third in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 21.76 seconds.
Thomas Kalieta, Jr. finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.76. seconds. Javonte Freeman placed fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.49 seconds. John Heriot tallied a ninth-place effort in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.98 seconds.
On the women's side, Evelina Sloboh paced the Wesley women with a sixth-place time in the 60-meter dash, clocking in at 7.71 seconds. Maysha Foster turned in a time of 1:02.31 in the 400 meters to place 14th. Sloboh and Foster finished the 200-meter dash in 26.41 seconds to tie for 15th place.
Ceoni Bennett placed 17th in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:25.47.
Zekiah Fountain paced the Wesley efforts in the field with a 14th place heave in the weight throw (13.13m, 43-1) and placed 20th in the shot put (9.39m, 30-9.75). Kayla Green notched a 19th place throw in the weight with a mark of 12.07 meters (39-7.25).
Wesley track and field will be back in action at the Spartan Regional Meet on Friday, Jan. 11 in Staten Island, N.Y.
