NEWARK, N. J. – The Wesley College men's soccer team put up a late rally against the Drew Rangers in the semifinal round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship Tournament but the rally came up short. 3-2 on Saturday.
With less than five minutes left in regulation and down 3-0, Wesley scored two goals in less than two minutes. In the 86th minute, Nicholas Hood put in a corner kick that found the head of Jordan Angel. Angel's header deflected off a Drew defender and into the net to cut the lead to 3-1.
A minute and a half later, Matthew Dina would finish off a counter attack with a header past the Drew keeper to bring Wesley within one.
Wesley would try and claw their way back in the game and force extra time, but Drew would hold off the late onslaught.
Defensively, Kyle Springsteen tallied four saves in the contest.
Drew held the 13-10 advantage in shots in the game but Wesley turned up the offensive pressure in the second half, holding the 8-5 edge in shots in the final frame.
Wesley wraps up the 2018 season with a 16-5-1 overall record and a 4-1-1 record in the Atlantic East Conference.
