DOVER, Del. - The Wesley College Volleyball team battled tough, holding late leads the games two and three, but could not overcome the Washington College Shorewomen as the Wolverines fell 3-0 to their nearby rivals.
Jessica Tynes and Tionne Graves-Brown each finished with double-doubles, registering 13 kills apiece with 11 digs and 10 digs, respectively. Jessica Tynes led the team with 14 digs while Beth Schlecker added a team-high 20 assists to go with five kills, eight digs, and a block.
The Wolverines were slow starters, hitting just .050 on their way to a 25-16 loss in the first game, but the squad bounced back in game two. Wesley took an early 5-3 lead and led by as many as three points during the set, never falling behind by more than two. The squad took a 21-19 lead on a kill by Codi Ziolkowski, but the Shorewomen finished on a 6-2 run to take the second stanza 25-23.
In the third, the Wolverines led by as many as five points, taking an 18-13 advantage, but the Shorewomen came storming back again on an 11-5 run to earn a game point. The Wolverines fended off the game point and two others before finally succumbing to Washington College, 29-27.
Wesley moves to 9-12 on the season and will return to action on Wednesday when they host Marymount University in a Capital Athletic Conference contest.
