Women’s lacrosse opens 2018 with record-breaking 25-3 win over Cedar Crest

DOVER, Del. – The Wesley College women's lacrosse set several records in Saturday's season-opening 25-3 win over the Cedar Crest Falcons.

The 25 goals scored by Wesley was the most in a game eclipsing the previous mark set against Hood College on March 26, 2011. Wesley also set the mark for the most points and assists in a game. As a team, Wesley totaled 40 points and 15 assists breaking the previous record of 32 points and 13 assists.

After Wesley and Cedar Crest traded opening markers, Wesley scored eight unanswered goals to get out to a 9-1 lead six minutes into the game.

Cedar Crest put two in the back in the next with a Wesley goal in between in the following three minutes before Wesley got out on a 10-0 scoring run to head into the half with a 20-3 lead and start the running second half.

Wesley added five more in the second half to set the scoring record and seal the win.

Fallon Fore and Tiaziah Wright each netted six goals in the win. Fore, Rodneisha Scott and Maddison Cypher each registered three assists in the game.

Paige Brehm found the back of the net four times while Bailey Grey and Brianna Bacon each recorded hat tricks for the Wolverines. Grey assisted on two Wesley goals.

Francesca Benitez caused four turnovers to lead the Wesley defense. Shelby Schirmer notched two saves to register a win in goal.

Rhica-May Austin had three goals for Cedar Crest.

The Wolverines (1-0) will be back in action on Saturday, March 3 when they host the Gwynedd Mercy Griffins. The opening draw at Drass Field at Scott D. Miller Stadium is set for 11:30 a.m.
