CAMDEN, Del. – The Wesley College women's lacrosse team helped kicked off the Salvation Army's Red Kettle campaign during its opening week at Redner's Market in Camden. Members of the team paired up and rang the bell the week of Nov. 13.
"I think sometimes we forget that we're a part of a large community," said senior defender Francesca Benitez, "so it felt good to know that we were giving back and do something to help others, especially during this time of year."
Community service has been a vital part of the women's lacrosse team under the direction of second-year head coach Jillian Lontz. In addition to the Red Kettle campaign, the team has participated in the hurricane relief Help Houston initiative, the Coastal Clean Up, hosted a canned food drive and volunteered at The Food Bank of Delaware.
Junior attacker Brianna Bacon says, "It teaches us to be humble for what we have."
