DOVER, Del. – Wesley College's women's lacrosse team led early on but Marymount ended the first half on a 12-1 run and defeated the Wolverines, 20-6 in a Capital Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon at Scott D. Miller Stadium. The loss drops Wesley to 4-7 overall and 0-5 in the CAC while the Saints move to 8-4 on the year and 2-2 in league play.
Marymount's Molly Maher scored the first goal of the game just 53 seconds in but the Wolverines tied it up on an unassisted tally by Jorden Lutz at 27:21, and another by Jessica Giaccone 43 seconds later to give Wesley a 2-1 lead.
Maher then assisted on Chelsea's Ritters goal to tie the score by Rylee Gould found Kaitlin Brennan in front of the net for a goal at 24:59, giving the Wolverines its final advantage at 3-2. From there it was all Marymount as Maher notched a hat trick and four assists in the first half and finished with four goals and four assists.
Kirsten Ward scored Wesley's other goal in the first half with 12:15 to play, cutting Marymount's lead to just three goals.
The teams traded goals to start the second half as Alyse Obermeyer and Lutz were able to beat backup goalkeeper Tylar Abrams. Marymount finished the game with four-straight goals.
Brennan (1g, 1a), Gould (2a) and Lutz (2g) all had multi-point days for Wesley while Lutz also had a team-high five ground balls. Brennan controlled a pair of draws and Giaccone caused a team-high two turnovers.
