DOVER, Del. – The Wesley College women's lacrosse team dropped its Capital Athletic Conference opener to No. 13 Mary Washington, 17-1 on Sunday afternoon at Scott D. Miller Stadium. The Wolverines fall to 1-2 overall while the Eagles improve to 2-1.
Mary Washington scored the game's first 12 goals before Nina Cornog found Jen Jacobs for a goal with 18:53 left in regulation. The Eagles quickly bounced back and scored five straight to close out the game.
Alyssa Batty stopped 20 shots for the Wolverines before giving way to Katherine Cooke with 8:31 remaining. Cornog and Jorden Lutz recorded a team-high three ground balls while Cornog also led the team with four draw controls and two caused turnovers.
Megan Gersbeck (4g, 2a) and Keller Torrey (2g, 4a) led the Eagles with six points each.
Wesley returns to action on March 3 when they travel to take on St. Joseph's (L.I.) in a 3 pm start.
