Women’s Lacrosse Runs Past USMMA
DOVER, Del. – Jen Jacobs and Alyse Obermeyer both recorded hat tricks and Rylee Gould finished with four points as the Wesley College women's lacrosse team defeated the United States Merchant Marine Academy, 16-2, on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Scott D. Miller Stadium. The Wolverines even their record at 1-1 while the Mariners were playing in the first-ever women's lacrosse game in program history.
Wesley scored the first nine goals of the game, including four in the first three minutes and 14 seconds as the Wolverines took control from the get-go. The Mariners were able to get on the board with 8:51 left in the half as Alexandra Winfree took a pass for Elizabeth Noonan and beat goalkeeper Alyssa Batty (four saves).
Obermeyer scored her second goal of the game with 6:42 left to give the Wolverines back a nine-goal lead at 10-1, and that is how the game went into halftime.
Jessica Franklin scored 42 seconds into the second half to begin a running clock for the remainder of the match and Wesley went on a 5-1 run to close out the game with goals by five different players.
Jacobs finished with four goals and an assist and tied with Franklin for a team-high five ground balls. Gould dished out a game-high three assists and also added a goal while Mia Brocco (2g, 1a) and Nina Cornog (1g, 1a) also had multi-point days. Cornog also recorded a team-high five draw controls and four caused turnovers.
The Wolverines will not have much rest as they host Mary Washington on Sunday, February 24, in a 2 pm Capital Athletic Conference matchup.
