Women's Basketball falls to host Catholic on first day of Roberts Tournament

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Wesley College women's basketball team dropped a 67-37 decision to the Catholic Cardinals on Saturday in the opening round of the Jamie Lynn Roberts Tournament presented by Fairfield Inn & Suites.

Monshea Newsome-Murray paced the Wesley offense with 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Newsome-Murray added five assists, four rebounds and three steals.

Shelby Johnson was a point away from a double-double, pulling down a game-high 15 rebounds and nine points.

SherVohnia Tolson chipped in with six points while Lekeshia Brown-Myrick and Sydney Pedersen tallied four and three points respectively.

Cristen George led Catholic with 12 points off the bench.

Wesley will be back in action on Sunday at 1 p.m. when they take on the St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) Bears in the consolation game of the Roberts Tournament.
