Softball drops two to open Myrtle Beach trip

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Wesley College softball team dropped a pair of games on Sunday to open their annual spring break trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Game 1 – Ferrum 3, Wesley 0

Wesley stumbled 3-0 to the Ferrum Panthers to start their trip.

Amanda Curry paced the Wesley offense with a 2-for-3 game with a lead-off double in the third inning. She was thrown out at third base trying to stretch her double to a triple. Brandi Dalious, Dori Loukopoulos and Karina Cardona all tallied a hit for the Wolverines.

Jessica Anderson struck out five in a complete-game effort. She gave up three runs on seven hits and walked three batters.

Ferrum did their damage in the middle innings. Sacrifice flies in the third and fourth innings plated two runs and Allison McGehee hit an RBI double that scored Tori Scott in the fifth.

Game 2 – Penn St. Harrisburg 3, Wesley 1

Wesley was unable to best former conference rival Penn St. Harrisburg. 3-1 to wrap up the first day of the Fast Pitch Dreams Spring Classic.

Wesley fell behind 3-0 to Penn St. Harrisburg after three innings before Curry knocked a two-out RBI double to score Loukopoulos from second in the fourth inning to cut the Lion lead to 3-1.

The Wolverines were able to get runners to scoring position in the fifth and sixth innings but were unable to find the timely hit to bring them in.

Curry, Ashley Royer, Kelly Palmer and Megan DiRubbio each recorded a hit in the loss.

Loukopoulos was able to strike out two batters in six innings of work.

Carlee Gochenaur led the Lions with two RBIs on a pair of hits.

Wesley will take on the No. 17 Coe Kohawks and the Wentworth Leopards on Monday. Wesley will open the day with Coe at 11:30 a.m.
