YORK, Pa. – Wesley College freshmen Corey Jones and Lamar Monroe have been named the Capital Athletic Conference Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. This is the first time that the Wolverines have swept both weekly honors since the track & field program began in the 2007-08 season.
In the season opener at the Ursinus Bowtie Classic on December 1, which also marked the collegiate track & field coaching debut for Stephen Kimes, Jones and Monroe qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships while posting victories in the 60m Dash and Triple Jump, respectively.
Hailing from Newark, Del., Jones won the short sprint in 7.04, which is just .01 off the CAC record. He also ran the opening leg of the 4x200m Relay and got the Wolverines out to an early lead.
A native of Galloway, N.J., Monroe broke the CAC-record by .11 meters with a 44' 9.75" performance in the triple jump. He also placed third in the long jump.
With winter break approaching for the College, the Navy & White will not have a meet until January 11 when it competes at the Kutztown Collegiate Invitational.
