DOVER, Del. – Wesley College senior midfielders Danny Garza and Nicholas Hood, junior defender Matthew Dina and junior forward Luis Cruz were tabbed as captains for the 2018 season.
Hood and Garza tied for the team lead in assists in 2017. Hood tallied nine points to finish third on the team last season. Cruz registered four points a season ago while Dina battled back from an injury in 2017 to help lead the defense during spring practice.
"Leadership is very important at the college level, so the appointment of captains is both an honor and opportunity for the top returning student-athletes to better themselves and positively impact the team," said head coach Steve Clark, who is entering his 29th season at the helm of the Wesley men's soccer program.
"All four are All-Delaware players but are also good students. Matt (Dina) has presented at Scholar's Day and at a conference in New Orleans. Nick (Hood) coaches youth soccer in the community and Danny (Garza) and Luis (Cruz) have taken on leadership roles in the Alpha Phi Delta fraternity. All four players are always in the weight room and train hard in each practice session to become better players for the upcoming season. These four are positive examples to not only their teammates but to their communities as well. I hope with more leadership training through Wesley Soccer, we can help them to achieve more with the team at Wesley and moving forward into their careers."
