FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Wesley College's men's lacrosse team wrapped up the season with a 20-7 Capital Athletic Conference loss at No. 14 Mary Washington on Wednesday afternoon. The Wolverines season comes to an end at 5-8 overall and 0-7 in the CAC while the Eagles move to 12-2 on the year and 4-2 in league play.
Mary Washington scored the first six goals of the game before Sam Seibert scored on an unassisted goal with 2:19 left in the first quarter to put Wesley on the board. However, the Eagles had a big second period, outscoring the Navy & White, 7-0 and went into the half with a 14-1 lead.
The Wolverines played even with the Eagles in the second half as both teams scored four in the third and two more in the fourth. Mary Washington opened the final 30 minutes with a goal but Wesley outscored UMW for the remainder of the quarter as four different Wolverines found the back of the net. Scoring in the quarter was Jathan Mahaffey, Patrick Lipari, James Moss and Nate Gemmato with Chandler Edmonds and Jack O'Neill dishing out assists.
Seibert and Moss both scored again in the fourth with Jack Redefer assisting on Moss' tally with 11 seconds left.
Moss and Seibert were the lone Wesley players with multi-point days but O'Neill finished with a team-high eight ground balls and won 16-of-27 faceoffs. Sam Kennedy, who stopped 14 shots on the day, also had three ground balls, as did Bobby Banks and Oakley Dieter.
John Bohlinger led all players with seven points on three goals and four assists while Luke Dick added four goals with an assist.
