Men's Basketball's playoff run ends at top-seeded Gwynedd Mercy

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The fourth-seeded Wesley College men's basketball team's Atlantic East Conference tournament run ended in the semifinals by the hands of the top-seeded Gwynedd Mercy Griffins, 101-94 on Thursday.

After a defensive struggle in the first eight minutes of the game that saw the game tied at 10, Gwynedd Mercy got out on a 20-4 run in the middle of the first half to take control of the game and hold a 30-14 lead with four minutes to go in the first half.

After made threes from Brian Cameron and Evan Anderson that helped trim into the lead, Gwynedd Mercy ended the first half on an 11-0 run to take a 48-20 lead into halftime.

Wesley turned the defensive pressure up a bit in the second half, but Gwynedd was able to break Wesley's press and jump out to 34-point lead four minutes into the second stanza.

Not going down without a fight, Wesley battled to chip away at the large lead. Cameron started to heat up from the field and brought Wesley to within 15 points in the waning moments of the game. Even Cameron, Anderson and Tyrone Craven starting to find their range, Gwynedd was making their shots and playing keep away to allow the Griffins to advance to Saturday's final.

Brian Cameron registered his eighth 30-plus point effort in the playoff loss. He tallied a game-high 38 points, 32 of which was scored in the second half. Cameron hit 11 of his 17 shots from the field, knocked down 8-ofo-12 from the three-point line and was 8-for-10 from the charity stripe. He added a team-best six assists along with four boards, a steal and a block.

Evan Anderson and Terrence Braxton joined Cameron in scoring double figures. Anderson notched 19 points while Braxton dropped 13 points. Tyrone Craven scored eight points, grabbed six rebounds, handed out four assists and stole the ball twice.

Gwynedd Mercy was paced by Courtney Cubbage, who had a double-double with 36 points and 10 rebounds.

Wesley ends the 2018-19 season 13-13 overall and 6-6 in the Atlantic East Conference
