CNU holds off late men’s basketball rally for CAC win

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Wesley College men's basketball team stumbled 83-69 in a road Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) contest to the Christopher Newport Captains on Sunday.

Facing a 42-22 halftime deficit, the Wolverines cut the Captain lead to as much as six when Brian Cameron hit two free throws to make it a 69-63 game with just under five minutes to go in regulation. But, the Captains held off the Wolverine rally to take the CAC victory.

Cameron led the Wolverines with 34 points to set a new career-high. Cameron went 11-of-26 from the field, including knocking down four three-pointers and made eight points from the charity stripe. Cameron also added five rebounds, two steals and two assists.

Evan Anderson chipped in with double figures for the Wolverines. Anderson tallied 12 points in 18 minutes of action.

Brandon Lewis and Derick Charles notched eight and six points respectively. Mychal Stefanides pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.=

Marcus Carter led the Captains with 22 points.

The Wolverines will step out of CAC play when they head north to Pennsylvania to take on the Lancaster Bible Chargers. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
