Hindt’s golden goal lifts field hockey in conference opener over Marywood

DOVER, Del. – Late heroics in double overtime by Kaila Hindt propels the Wesley College field hockey team over the Marywood Pacers, 2-1 in both team's Atlantic East Conference opener on Friday.

Marywood took the early lead when Angela Sanchez scored off an assist from Sara Sterchak in the fourth minute of the game. Wesley responded 12 minutes later when Hindt squaked a shot past the Marywood goalkeeper off an assist from Rebecca Dvorak.

Both defenses held tight to force overtime. Marywood looked to end the game near the end of the first overtime but Heather Forbes' shot was rejected in the last second by Kasey Fry.

Hindt scored the golden goal with 3:43 left in the second overtime period when a long outlet pass by Fry found Hindt at midfield. Hindt was able to beat the defender and backhand the shot past the diving goalkeeper to secure Wesley's first Atlantic East win.

Hindt tallied a pair of goals while Fry and Natalie Quigley each recorded a defensive save in the win. Sidney Knott registered three saves in net for Wesley.

Wesley (5-6, 1-0 Atlantic East) will step out of conference play on Wednesday at 7 p.m. when they travel down Route 13 to take on the eighth-ranked Salisbury Sea Gulls.
