DOVER, Del.- The Wesley College football team wrapped up their spring schedule with their annual spring game held at Drass Field at Scott D. Miller Stadium on Sunday.
The spring game featured the conclusion of the spring-long "Dub Wars", multiple offensive and defensive line challenges, a long snap challenge and a 7-on-7 scrimmage between the offense and the defense.
At the conclusion of all the spring game festivities, head coach Chip Knapp named the Most Outstanding Spring Players and the leadership council for the 2019 season. Captains will be named during the preseason camp.
Most Outstanding Spring Offensive Players were sophomore offensive tackle Brandon Bradford and sophomore wide receiver Mike Credle. Junior safety Marcus Gaspard and sophomore linebacker Jay Holmes collected the Most Outstanding Spring Defensive Player award.
"All four players represent what we expected out of players in the spring and look forward to them to continue to progress in the offseason and be ready for camp."
Knapp later named the 12-player leadership council for the 2019 season. The leadership council includes, senior running back E.J. Lee, senior defensive tackle Nick Glover, senior quarterback Jon Mullin, senior wide receiver Ruhann Peele, senior offensive tackle Josh Hughes, senior safety Coray Williams, junior quarterback David Marrocco, junior linebacker Dante Daniel, junior cornerback Isiah Mitchell, junior defensive end Shymere Vessels, sophomore offensive tackle Brandon Bradford and sophomore linebacker Jay Holmes.
"The leadership council was set up to improve communication between the team and coaches. But, also to develop leaders before we name the captains at camp."
The Wesley College football team will open the 2019 season on the road on Saturday, Sept. 7 when they take on the Division II Franklin Pierce Ravens. Kickoff from Rindge, NH is set for noon. The finalized schedule will be released in the coming weeks.
