NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Wesley College baseball team dropped a pair of Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) games to the nationally ranked Christopher Newport Captains on the road to wrap up the 2018 season.
Wesley fell in the first game 22-2 to Christopher Newport. The Wolverines scored a pair of runs in the ninth inning when Chris Seibert hit a two-run double to left field to score Cody Dmiterchik and Jarret Wallace.
Wallace and Seibert both registered a pair of hits in the loss.
Christopher Newport was able to come back late to take the doubleheader finale 4-3 in 11 innings over Wesley.
Seibert put Wesley on the board in the first inning when he knocked a solo home run over the right-center field wall.
After CNU tied the game in the bottom of the first, Wesley went ahead by one when Will Barton scored from third base on a dropped third strike with two outs. Wesley went up by two runs in the third when Seibert smacked his second homer of the day on a solo shot to right field.
Wesley wasn't able to hold the lead when CNU scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning then hit the game-winning hit in the 11th.
Seibert and Barton each went 3-for-5 while Seibert smacked a pair of solo home runs. Alex Marrs pitched nine innings with 14 strikeouts to tie a career high.
The Wolverines end the 2018 season 10-23 and 4-14 in the CAC.
